Our Aims

Poverty Alleviation

The Badur Foundation’s overarching aim is to tackle poverty through education and social enterprise. We find people and projects focused on helping marginalised and disadvantaged individuals and groups who want to improve their future prospects and those of their communities.

Badur places a great deal of value on education - a focal objective of our funding and strategic support in this area. Education, we believe, can bring about change for those on the margins of society via better employment opportunities, job security and higher wages. We also place a high value on organisations that challenge societal attitudes towards social exclusion, and towards those striving to bring about change in the acceptance of minority groups.

We welcome a commercially-minded yet social approach to poverty relief and we encourage social entrepreneurialism. We support a range of teams, charities and social enterprises, giving them access to the support they need to reach the next stage of their development.

We are a proactive, relationship-based funder and strategic mentor to organisations wanting to play a role in the cyclical benefits of better education leading to social change. We actively look for likeminded organisations as well as intermediaries, delivery partners and cofunders with whom we can work closely. We provide creative financial assistance alongside practical, professional guidance, capacity building, incubation and acceleration. We see partnerships as long-term.

Education

  • We prioritise access to quality education for those in economically disadvantaged communities, where overcoming multi-layered, complex barriers to educational attainment is a real challenge.
  • We support organisations and projects that address the need to change society’s sensitivity towards - and its understanding of - the social, economic and cultural issues facing isolated communities.

Social Enterprisee

  • We work closely with people and projects with an inclusive and socially impactful approach to business, who provide services or products and job opportunities. Our appetite is for first time and scalable enterprises (incubation and acceleration) looking for financial and strategic assistance.
  • We work with resourceful, well connected partners and co-investors to deliver diverse, sustainable support.

Tackling Environmental Challenges

We believe one of the most defining issues of our generation is how to tackle the pervasive environmental challenges that are irreversibly changing our world. We aim to support those seeking to address some of those challenges in order to create a more sustainable future.

The impact of environmental changes can already be seen on a local and global level, and we know that disadvantaged communities and those who are more vulnerable are likely to be hit disproportionately. In this new area of our work, we aim to assist projects, organisations and communities who are tackling key environmental issues with a focus on Climate Action, Biodiversity and Land Use, and Fresh and Marine Water Ecosystems.

We will work closely with a small number of teams, supporting them to deliver their solutions and initiatives as efficiently as possible.

Climate Action

  • We know climate action is crucial and we welcome organisations and projects seeking to achieve climate change mitigation, from zero-carbon schemes and energy initiatives, through to those tackling air pollution and local air quality.

Biodiversity and Land Use

  • The growing human population has deeply altered the world’s ecosystem. We will consider supporting a range of topics related to terrestrial environmental protection measures and actions, including anthropogenic land use.

Fresh and Marine Water Ecosystems

  • We understand that the state of aquatic ecosystems has a direct impact on many species, from plants and animals to humans. We are interested in supporting projects related to both fresh and marine water issues.
We support the ambitions of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals to tackle poverty, inequality and promote global sustainable development.
